“Same thing is happening with her fake ‘crowds’ at her speeches,” Trump said in the Truth Social Post. “She should be disqualified because the creation of a fake image is ELECTION INTERFERENCE. Anyone who does that will cheat at ANYTHING!”
Many of you may know, or may not, but deep fakes are a threat to many because the line between fact and fiction becomes increasingly blurred, and the integrity of our most fundamental institutions can be under threat. Why?
Let’s face it, people believe what they want on the internet. We don’t do our due diligence, we don’t apply common sense, and often when we’re mindlessly scrolling, we read headlines and apply a sense of truth to it. So we believe what we read and see. So a well-timed and convincingly fabricated video could be used to publicly smear a candidate, sway public opinion, and potentially even tip the scales of an election outcome. Ouch!
